Strictly fished the forebay today. No trolling the big lake.

Picked up a couple 4-5 pound black bass while hammering stripers in the schoolie class.

Ripping 3/8 oz, 3" sassy shads in white/blue back. Fish were tight to the bottom in eight feet of water in the morning.

Fished on the east end between the "towers" and the outlet.

Extra long casts, letting it hit bottom then cranking it back as fast as i could, with the rod tip in the water.

Followed the fish out to twelve feet, where they settled for the rest of the day.

Kinda odd, they only wanted 1/4 oz, 3" chart./pepper curl tail grubs bounced on the bottom. They must have been looking for mud bugs or bullheads!

My technique was to long cast the jig, let it hit bottom, point the rod at the jig and take up the slack. Then sharply pull the rod 90 deg. To my right.

At the end of my stroke i lowered the tip toward the water and watched for the line to jump then set the hook! Fish on nearly every cast for about 45 minutes straight.

I didnt keep count but im sure between the two of us we lipped over a hundred fish today, by 11 am.

Bring mosquito spray!

As water flows back into the big lake there are a sh**load of bass to be caught.

Trolled the dam pattern for two hours and caught fifteen fish up to 18 pounds.

Worked 2oz bucktails with red thread, dressed with white, 5" widetail grubs.

All fish came from 60 down and 20 back. Behind two 4'
#7 willow leaf lake trolls in gold and silver, 6 blades each.

All said and done we ended the troll with our limits and landed thirty fish!

Going to install a go pro video camera (if i get it from santa)

DECIDED TO GO DUCK HUNT THE BIG LAKE THIS MORNING.

WHILE HUNTING THERE I ALWAYS SET A LINE IN HOPES OF PULLING SOME FISH AS WELL AS DUCKS.

WHILE FISH/HUNTING ON THE NORTHWEST END I MANAGED THREE MALLARDS AND ONE PINTAIL.

WHILE FISHING A GOB OF NIGHTCRAWLERS 18" FROM THE END OF A 1oz EGG SINKER, WITH 20# BRAID, BLOWN UP TO FLOAT THEM OFF THE BOTTOM. I CAUGHT 4 CATS, INCLUDING A 7 POUNDER. NO STRIPERS.

Catfish in the shallows are the main event at the big lake this time of year.

Just about any type of bait will get em!

Left side of the main cove on the lake and the north side coves near the highway are the shallowest spots that are accessed from shore.

Water still kinda low but rising. If your fishing at night. You are crazy not to try these areas.
