Re: San Luis - Oneil Forebay reports
Strictly fished the forebay today. No trolling the big lake.
Picked up a couple 4-5 pound black bass while hammering stripers in the schoolie class.
Ripping 3/8 oz, 3" sassy shads in white/blue back. Fish were tight to the bottom in eight feet of water in the morning.
Fished on the east end between the "towers" and the outlet.
Extra long casts, letting it hit bottom then cranking it back as fast as i could, with the rod tip in the water.
Followed the fish out to twelve feet, where they settled for the rest of the day.
Kinda odd, they only wanted 1/4 oz, 3" chart./pepper curl tail grubs bounced on the bottom. They must have been looking for mud bugs or bullheads!
My technique was to long cast the jig, let it hit bottom, point the rod at the jig and take up the slack. Then sharply pull the rod 90 deg. To my right.
At the end of my stroke i lowered the tip toward the water and watched for the line to jump then set the hook! Fish on nearly every cast for about 45 minutes straight.
I didnt keep count but im sure between the two of us we lipped over a hundred fish today, by 11 am.
Bring mosquito spray!
