Default Spawning underway in Cornwall Bay?

Just spent a couple of hours before sunset paddling around Cornwall Bay. Got to cruise within 30 feet of some mighty nice Bald Eagles. Saw a handful of big stripers getting pushed up on their sides to the surface. All in about 3-5 feet of water at the mouth of Moodna Creek. I'm a bit of a rookie but unless I'm mistaken, that's spawning behavior. Anyone else notice that?

I've always been under the impression that they spawn in much deeper water.

are you sure that they weren't carp? they spawn in shallows and their time for bumpin' uglies is also fast approaching.

just to elaborate, my understanding is that the eggs need to remain in the water column for 24-48hrs. releasing the eggs in 3-5' of water will likely result in them settling in the bottom and suffocating.

feel free to let me know if i'm full of chit that way i can stop lying to people

Could very well have been but I would have bet money they were stripers. It was on the outgoing tide on the flats. Just before dusk, the fish ranged from about 10-30 feet away and seemed to be of a pretty hefty size. The scales didn't look big like a carp. I am hoping you guys will tell me I am wrong. I'm not ready to wind down the season yet!

We fished Cornwall Bay on 5/11 the water temps were 58-59.We saw no surface activity at all in the morning before the wind picked up.We did however hammer the stripers ranging from 10-30 lbs.
