great report. it is fine to get sand in your face from a bass. if it were a boofish i would make fun of it/ i wanna go tomorrow nite. got a report of my own. btw, i am clear for takeoff and no surgery required. still sore but back to work. i have been dying to get out. i may stay away from the rocks and take out the longwand but it has been a tad slow with alot of mullet here. i figure this moon tonight will bring the body of fish in we have been waiting for. gotta pm suds and get him here.

Even tho the moon and tide are all wrong, at least to my liking, I'll be out huntin' around tonight to see what I can see. Bait's here, bring on the big girls!

Good to hear your knee is working, part of getting old is all the aches and pains, that were never there before.

Anyone fishing Long Beach Island yet?

I will be down there visiting a buddy in Mannahawkin over Columbis Day weekend, and I am hoping the "Fall Blitz" may be in action on Barnaget Bay.

We'll have a 18' center console to chase them with, but may not pass Barnaget Light or head out the inlet if it is as rowdy on the 'outside' as it was last year...

Any insight is always appreciated... I haven't seen a Striper since they left the Upper Hudson in May!

Blues around in any decent numbers in case the Stripers aren't in?

Water on your opposite side is bathwater. Even though the nights have been cooler. Had a dink on a peanut swimmer become unbuttoned. Saw one fish raised in three tides by a total of 6 guys. SI baitshop - nothing to report.
Bait = spearing, peanuts and mullet but no real thick clouds near the shoreline. At least where I scouted anyway.

No blues around either thankfully.

Caught a speedster on a homemade spoon, out of a spoon. Oldschool shit my neighbor told me about. I took an old serving spoon my mom had, clamped it in a vise, buffed it out with an orbital, then drilled it for a line and hook, hammered it, tied a bucktail to it and let it sing. She slammed it just under the drink. I was so happy I cast again in the same spot, fu***n bluefish got a hold. Got him close but he took it. I was using 10# fluoro.

Got 'em north, they are out there. I will be back out tuesday hopefully.

Not a Striper report, but I headed out to the Toms Canyon for some tuna. Did not go out with high hopes as the Yellowfin bite has been dismal at best. Turns out we slayed 'em. 54 yellowfin for a boat of 20 guys. 90% jig bite, I tied into 9 only to land 3 on 40 pound test. Fish ranged from 25 to 75#. You don't see many nights like this.

Yes, it is time to hit the beach, after spending far too many hours making far too many unproductiuve casts, I get a call last night from my fishing buddy.
Conversation goes like this:
Him. Where you at?
Me. Going to soccer practice (I'm the coach)
Him. I'm standing on piles of rainfish and the fish are breaking just out of casting reach, but they're coming in.
Me Great, go catch 'em up
Him They're here, gotta go.
Me. (To myself) Mother&^%$&^ Son of a %[email protected]$^ GOD$%$#@*& stupid F&^%$#% FISH!!!!!!!!!!!!

He got bass and blues till dark, then went home happy.
I just went home, but there's always tonight.

I've been hitting everywhere, morning or evening, and getting struck out.

Doesn't matter, hook, belmar, atlantic county... where I am, the fish ain't.

Just been one of those falls.

Been using bait, flies, plugs at different times/ places.

Been out at night, morning and evening. Not even a blue so far this fall.

On bait, I've gotten a few sharks and skates... that's been it.

I've hoofed miles, or been right by my vehicle... didn't matter.

Saturday I hope to take the yak out on the Navesink or Shrewsbury (depending if my fav launch spot is still available... havn't been there since last year)

So be forewarned: if you're heading out to those rivers Saturday, be prepared for a skunking.

Hit up the hook today, hiked out to the rip hoping to find anything. I'm in the same boat as surfrob this fall. Guy next to me says after a couple hours, "before you came I caught 10 stripers." Figures.

Didn't get anything. Quite depressing.
