Default Art of The Drop Shot

The Drop Shot rig is a very productive rig if it is used right.. a problem is alot of people dont. It is a great go-to setup when fishing is tough.

Rigging The Drop Shot:

First off i highly suggest using the Gamakatsu Drop Shot Hooks but there are many hooks made for drop shoting. Step 1 tie a palomar knot to the hook with the Barb and point FACING UPWARDS. Step 2 when tieing your knot leave anywhere from 1 to 3 feet of a tag end depending on the day and where the fish are located if they are hugging the bottom shorten the tag if they are suspended more length it adjust till you find what works.

Now the weight, when fishing in weeds or other heavy cover i suggest using a Skinny Drop Shot Weight, a skinny weight would be beneficial because it would allow the weight to cut through and squeeze through the cover better, when drop shoting over rocks use a decent sized round weight that way it should not get stuck in between rocks as easily..

When chosing weight i would suggest looking at the new tungsten weights they are a bit more expensive but are worth the money..

Working the Drop Shot:

Place your bait on the hook (Fluke,Senko,Curly-Tailed Worm etc..) and cast your setup in the water.

When the weight hits the bottom twitch ur rod very softly not moving the weight but giving your bait some extra action.. every so often bounce your lure closer and continue twitching your rod.

If the drop shot is learned and used correctly it will produce bass in the toughest conditions.. Good Luck
