Default line keep breaking

i just bought this rod

i used a 1/2oz weighted hook with a swimming bait... my 10th cast it broke off lmao... so i took it home and just used the string to tie my knots to see if it was just the knot but, every time i tie the knot on the hook if i pull on it, it breaks right at the hook... the knot is intact, i tried a variety of knots same result... the string is to weak or something? i caught 2 fishes on this already no problems... just the lost of my nice lure :( and started messing with it... i think its 8lb test it came with...

8 pound test and a six foot ugly stik?

Save that outfit for the freshwater and get a stout 10 foot surf rod with a reel capable of holding 200 yards of 20 pound monofilament line.

20 pound test will hold tight to your hooks and lures.

Come on - do a little research here.
Save yourself some headaches.

A decent fish will take that combo, chew it up and spit it out!

It would be usable on a boat targeting smaller fish like flounder, sea bass, porgy, herring but no way off the shoreline. Never tie the lure directly to the main line anyway, always use a leader! Search and read man, search and read.

thanks for the replies, I've got another rod not sure what lb line it came with because it doesn't say! ready2fish surf and pier. I used that one instead it's much stronger... I will change the line on the ugly stick...

It would be wise to learn how to tie a shock leader on the main line. Even 20# test will break . I use a 30# leader tie'd to 20# have'nt snapped off sence ! You could cast that 8# with no problem with a shock leader. I tie the two lines together with a Blood knot reel two or three wraps on the reel tie a barrel swivel on the other end . I tie a 2' piece of 80# to that with a palmer knot . A heavy locking snap swivel to the other end . This work's good for plugs and tins when there are Blues hitting also . Or just use braid'ed Line !
