Default What type of stick for casting plugs off surf?

I have been surf fishing now for 2 years with bait. I want to start casting with plugs. The pole I'm using is an Okuma EVX 10 foot surf pole. I know this really is not the pole to use for casting plugs, swim baits, etc. Any infor would help i.e. type, length, action, etc. I've been looking at TICA, Tsunami, etc. I like my Okuma but don't think that they have any smaller rods for casting off surf.

Thanks

9 or 10 foot. 8 or 11 foot if your so inclined.

Line weight should be rated for 12 to 20 or 15 to 30 pound test -
1 to 5 ounces. 2 to 4 ounces or 3/4 to 4.
In that general area.
There are many to choose from.

Assuming you dont want to spend anything.
The Penn Power surf stick is not horrible for the money.
The lower end St. Croixs are getting harder to come by as the fall run is upon us.

MikeC! Greetings. You should really look at what class weight lure you will be throwing, and then think about what size line you have come to enjoy.

If you like lighter weight lures and mono and spinning, then you are in luck! there are a bunch of choices. If you prefer braid, and conventional, then it's a different game.

I suggest you make your own.

What kind of setup do you want:

spinning or casting?

braid or mono?

If you tell me, I can point you in the right direction.

cheers,
-Dana

Thanks Dana -

1oz. - 2 1/2 oz. lure I have been using 20lb Suffix mono but might change over to braid. As far as reel it would be spinning.

Thanks
