Default Line depth Calculations

Depth Calculator
George's Piefer's Fishing Lure Depth Indicator

sin(90) = 1, so the equation can be rewritten as Depth = Line Out x Sin(line angle). In addition, if you are flatline trolling, you will also need to add the distance from the rod tip to the water level into the equation as so: Depth = (Line Out x Sin(line angle)) - rod distance.

Table 1. Equations for depth calculations.

If your Angle is 5 Multiply Line out by 0.087
If your Angle is 10 Multiply Line out by 0.174
If your Angle is 15 Multiply Line out by 0.259
If your Angle is 20 Multiply Line out by 0.342
If your Angle is 25 Multiply Line out by 0.423
If your Angle is 30 Multiply Line out by 0.5
If your Angle is 35 Multiply Line out by 0.574
If your Angle is 40 Multiply Line out by 0.643
If your Angle is 45 Multiply Line out by 0.707
If your Angle is 50 Multiply Line out by 0.776
If your Angle is 55 Multiply Line out by 0.819
If your Angle is 60 Multiply Line out by 0.866
If your Angle is 65 Multiply Line out by 0.906
If your Angle is 70 Multiply Line out by 0.94
If your Angle is 75 Multiply Line out by 0.966
If your Angle is 80 Multiply Line out by 0.985

Hi parker
according to Georges chart he states that

The figures above (In his chart) include 2’ of depth for a medium weight lure, 6 to 10 ounces and a 30’ mono
leader.

Add 1-2’ for a heavy lure, eg. A MoJo and subtract 1’ for a light lure below 6oz/
Fine-tuning as components change, eg. 12’ fluorocarbon leaders vs. 30’ mono can only be done through experience. Depths are for a boat speed of 3mph. For 2.5 mph multiply depth by 1.3 and for 3.5 mph by 0.8.
