Default The Best $1000 Reel For Someone Else's Money?

I'm going to hit my 10 year anniversary with my company in May. At 10 years they allow you to select a present worth up to $1000. I'm thinking about getting a sweet fishing reel. I've heard about Zeebaas and Van Staal reels and am looking for something along the lines of those reels. I'll be mostly fishing from a boat. I mix it up with bait, and lures and fish a lot of live bait. I tend towards lighter tackle. Any advice for what I should get? I'm really lucky to be able to buy a reel like this which I could never afford on my own. Even if I could, my wife would have a fit :)

Thanks,

Noah

Damn nice way to show appreciation for their employees - I'm impressed.

If you do most of your fishing from a boat maybe a top of the line conventional rod n reel setup might be in order.

I can't say enough good things about the Accurate Boss Magnum Twindrag B-270-XC.
I don't boat fish but I do fish this reel from some very high bridges and this little thing has cranked fish to 31" forty feet straight up in the air without a problem.

You might want to ask Roc about a rod that would match well with it, he's da man for boat stuff.

The Van Staal & ZeeBaaS are not "live bait from a boat" kind of reels. They're much more at home on a surf rod. I agree, better off picking a top end conventional if that's your game

Van Staal made an offshore / boat reel, the 400 . . . 750yds of 80lb braid, 40lb max drag and a 4 speed crank handle and 48 ounces but you would need to chip in another $800.

To bostonfisher I would say, tell them you want an Alutecnos 80/130 Wide; sell it and then get a Saltiga
SA-Z4500 on a custom 7' live bait / jigging stick from JPR Rods. You'll have enough left over to spool it up with Daiwa dyed braid and get a few butterfly jigs!
