Greg Maddux and the San Diego Padres reached agreement Tuesday
night on a $10 million, one-year contract. Maddux has won at least
10 games for 19 consecutive seasons. No other active pitcher can
claim such consistent success.

Yup, even being as sloppy as they have been witht the ball, mostly mental errors, they have a few guy's hurt, but not as many as last season, they cant afford to be that sloppy much longer, they play the dolphins on Sunday, if they play like they did last week it will be a L, that we can ill afford, the Jets are two games back...back to the Hot stove...

Sox got JD drew and julio lugo yesterday, that doesnt do it for me, I wish they had kept gonzalas at SS, the man was a human vacume cleaner, then they give JD Drew more money than Damon was asking, Damon was(is) a real dirt dog, and he's gone to the enemy, huge loss!, this guy's(Drew) a big ?????? I realize he's replacing Trot Nixon in right, Trot seems to be always hurt but gives his all on the field.... after all that we (like everyone else) need pitching!

the lack of play of the "O" line and the continued Mistakes...the good thing,is everything is correctable.... IMHO, the Ravens and Chargers are the teams to beat in the AFC... at least for this week, each "top ranked" team seems to take it's turn at producing a real stinker, last week, Cowboys,Colts,Pats and a few others just layed a big wet fart.....

and of coarse Matkusaka.... will they or wont they sign him....it's all up too scott boris, IMHO the most ruthless agent in the buisness... smart too.

is it 11 t.o.'s in last four games. looks like a pattern to me, not
so easy to correct. but, nothing a few wins in a row wouldn't help.
i know the eei guys are sayin boras has to get him signed or it will
hurt his standing in japan but the two sides, according to reports,
are still far apart and the clock is ticking. the 51 mil they deposited
to talk to him would buy a lot of pitching if the talks fail and they get it back.
they better hope the next free agent they like isn't rep. by boras.

Mariner Moves

Vidro

The Seattle Mariners acquired Vidro and $4 million from the
Washington Nationals for oft-injured outfielder Chris Snelling
and right-hander Emiliano Fruto in a deal finalized Monday.

Keith Law's take

Jose Vidro is an old 33:
His knees are shot, he can't play the field anymore,
and his power is gone. He'll be one of the worst designated
hitters in the American League, and he just bumped a
superior hitter, Ben Broussard, out of that role.
• Yes, Chris Snelling is a Man of Glass, and he's out of
options, but he has actual ability and is still just 25
years old. Yes, Emiliano Fruto has below-average
control, but he's 22, has a plus fastball and solid-average
change, and has less than a year of major league service.
And to make this even more ridiculous, the Mariners
apparently are going to pick up Vidro's option for
2009 -- by which point he'll need a walker to get to
first base without help from two teammates.

Batista finalized a $25 million, three-year contract with
the Mariners last Thursday.

Yea Thanks nut.

Radke officially retired on Tuesday leaving millions on the table.
"There's not enough money in the world that's going to bring me back," Radke said at a news conference Tuesday to officially announce his retirement after a 12-year career in the majors, all with Minnesota.
Radke has pitched with a torn labrum for the last two years, and a stress fracture in the joint added to the pain. Surgery would have been required to continue, and he wasn't interested in a lengthy rehabilitation.
"I just don't want to do it," Radke said. "I'm shot, really

I just heard that Zito has signed with the Giants for a 7-year $125 mil contract with an eighth year at $18 if he pitches 200+ innings in 2013. Thats out of this world. Mets apparently would not go higher than 5 years at $75 mil. Still crazy for a pitcher that hasn't exactly been lights out for the past few years. I could see dishing that out for Johan Santana, but Zito? I don't know.

And with Suppan off the market now, I guess the Mets are back at looking at Mark Mulder.

  • Yanks Just signed Kei Igawa, who was arguably the best lefty remaining on the market for 5 years at 5 mill per. and 56 million compensation to the Hansho Tigers.
Giants signed Zito for 126 million. Thats a coup for them.
Not muche left out there.
If I was the Mets I'd look in house. Pelfry, Bannister, Mayne and Phil Humber are names that will be heard from.
One or two of these guys can step up for them. If Humber stays healthy he could be a real sleeper. I would try to sign Scott Schoeneweis from the Reds and add innings with a guy like John Thompson or Joel Pineiro. Havent had any news on Zambrano but he should be rehabbing from shoulder surgery. Trachsel is gone IMO.
  • The Angels Juan Rivera broke his leg in winterball so LA has signed Shea Hillenbrand. Hillenbrand had a fight with his manager in Toronto and got bounced. ... Story

Orioles sign Trachsel after Benson tears rotator cuff. Good luck to the O's with this guy. A.L. will light him up.
His fastball is meat high in the zone. His curve is a 12 to 6 yacker and is good when he's sharp. Then he can spot the fastball, otherwise hes gasoline on a fire.
