Step 1.
Use a Mustad 34007 ss 1/0 hook and black thread.
Wrap a small bed of thread on the rear of the hook

Step 3.
Tie in two lengths of purple Flashabou (or any other color you might want)

Step 4.
Choose two matching neck feathers and tie them in tent style - the bottom one curving up and the top one curving down.
These will give the fly some action in the water

Step 5.
Tie in another bit of bucktail. This time instead of being on top of the hook, spin it all the way around. Wrap it in and run the thread up to the eye of the hook.

Step 6.
Cut a 3/4 inch length of black mylar tubing and tie it on as shown in the picture. Run the thread back to about the point of the hook, you'll be wrapping over some of the bucktail and feather so be careful you don't pull any of the materials out of position. Soak it well with Sally Hansons.

Step 7.
Roll the tubing inside out over the hook shank. A tube, the kind you use to pack hair, works well.
Tie the tubing off, trim any excess, cover the trimmed ends with a few wraps and tie off with a few half hitches.

Add a pair of stick on eyes, put it in the spinner and coat the head with 5 minute epoxy. I've had good results with Z-poxy

The finished fly.
Is it any good? I'm a total hack so I have no idea

Very nice Sudsy. Can't wait to get it salty

I failed to do a step-by-step of mine. I used up the last of my black rabbit hide. Just ordered some more,, I'll tie another when it comes in and detail the process.

I need to go out in the morning and pick up some supplies and try this. Great tutorial that deserves Sticky status.

Whoaa there! I don't even know if it's going to swim properly.
Srsly, I tie a good plug tail but I'm a complete hack with actual flies. Just learning this part of the sport. Probably tied less than 100 flies in my life.
Before we start talking stickie, let's see how this works in the water.

We should start a pattern library

I'm sure it will swim just fine.

I've never tied hackle in top and bottom. I've always tied it on the sides but there is enough stuff on top I think to keep it from swimming sideways.

this is just a friendly swap. it was meant to be that and only that. if we are to judge and criticize then what's the fun. i would never do that to my friends (only in person). i can do the tutorial on alot of fly's but now i am geared up to fish and i'm not paid enough here to do that sad to say.
