Default First fishing trip this season:

A friend and I hit Guntersville dam tailrace for about 4 hours this morning for a little early season striper hunting...water temps were around 46 degrees(still a bit cool for the spring run).
It wasn't the best day ever, but it sure felt good catching a fish again(been toooooooo darn long)
We ended up with 2 hybrids, 2 decent salts, a juvey salt and a whitey.

My buddy with a 10 pound hyb (yeah..he was cold..lol)..me and a 9 lb.er..and the 2 salts. It won't be long before it's "ON" below the dams down here!!

Oh, Lordy, Slo, those are B E A U T I F U L! That must have felt good. In fact, that first whack you felt must have about stopped your heart. Congrats!

Our water here is still hard. Should soften soon, but today it is snowing out. I'm just holding on until the first day of Spring. Have a cabin rented on Cherokee Lake TN.

Keep up the excellent fun!

What color were they interested in?

Pearl/chart...my buddy caught the bigger hybrid on a hyper striper bucktail and the rest were caught on a u-know-what..(fishing was slow, so we had to resort to the u-rigs)
We went again today, and if it wasn't for one young and dumb white bass we'd have been looking at a pole-cat.

Same here...except with 15" of ice.
Our reservoir / river becomes very silt laden in the spring from all the snow/ice run off. Normally have to just wait....till the water clears up before attempting to catch any wipers. How about you guys...turbid water fishing wipers ???

Yep, 6" to 8" of hard water left here. Hopefully, it'll be gone in a week, so the warm-up will begin. I have always struggled in muddy water for Hyb's and stripes. I just confirms my opinion that they are primarily sight feeders.

The water in the pics. is sooooooo blue and clean looking. I'm sooooooo jealous !!!!
Turbid water is just part of living in an agricultural state. If it's just snow run off ...it's not too bad , but if we get rain (usually do) it gets real dirty !

Tooth, the Tennessee river gets muddy after a good rain also....but the tailraces are usually fairly clear unless we get a real frog choker.

The wiper waters here are not too subject to fogging over, even during heavy rains. The lake is stable and they usually only let out about as much water as they let in, so it does not seem to silt up much. The the northe there is a good striper impoundment, but when it rains there, mud flows.

We're looking at the lower 50's by Saturday, so probably by next weekend we'll be out tossing lead.

With luck, I will find some as fine as those in the photos. The Monroe Lake, IN wiper record is 18 lbs. 4 oz. I'm hoping for a nineteen pounder, but will probably be delighted with a six or better for starters.
