Default Shad Challenged

I fish Lake Martin in Southeastern Al. I am shad challenged. I don't have the time to go net them and I can't find a bait store that sells them. (They sell them upon Smith Lake). Does anyone have any recomendend methods for producing stripers somewhat predictably other than shad?

Default might try these

Hey Ryan, you might try some of these if you can get them - live mullet, shad- or mullet-imitating lures, live shrimp and twister-tail type jigs, even spoons. Haven't been to your exact location but around N. FL those were working out. Like to know if you find the key.

sorry for the late reply...you can catch them on skipjack, bream and i've had decent luck with big shiners.

don't forget some arts...bucktail jigs, jiggin' spoons, umbrella rigs and deep diving crankbaits(trolled)...i don't know about the area you fish, but fishing boat docks (lighted)at night is a good option at Smith Lake right now....Carolina rigged...1/2 oz sinker.... circle hooked bream....depending on water depth on how deep to fish(i hired a guide and we fished about 24 ft. deep...boat sitting in 60')

Thanks Slo. What size bream were you using? Did it produce results?

you can pretty much use any size you catch...a striper will eat a BIG bait.
and yes, we caught more on bream when we fished Smith than we did on shad.
