Default Upper Hudson fishing tournaments

Looks like the Ale House, Castelton and Rip VanWinkle are all having their tournaments on May 3rd. Idiots. You think they would communicate with each other.

And maybe watch the weather ..... many years 5/3 is way way too early for the Ale House at least.

I fished it one year that it was early like this and it was almost impossible to get herring .... may be the case this year too.

I have seen it May 20 +- as well ....... it's almost impossible to guess when the right time will be.

My guess is 5/3 will be too early this year.

Been there, done that too Rooster ... i caught a 8lber at the last min one year and weighed it right in. I laughed to myself bringing it to the scales, but with 2 day total (Castleton Derby) it kept me in top ten.

The trophy is on the shelf and spent most of the $ 500 prize money at the bar that day.

I hear ya man ... going to be a tough feat if they keeping letting the guys bring in fish from the Kingston area. Kind of ruined it for all the local guys who have supported the derby when it started many years ago. Just My 2-cents.

Hope you do well man.

I agree that it maybe to early for Al House,
Two years ago, I got greedy .At 8:00AM caught a 22LBer in the Al House Tour. Thought I could do better because my partner and I were smok'in them all week long . Neither of us caught anything for the rest of the day. I missed placing by 1/2 lb.
Who knows when it's best, but the Al House Tournament is always fun. With a narrow river packed with fisherman, it can be very entertaining.

I agree totally. Lots of local guys agree as well. I spend a lot of time at the club and talk with a lot of guys down there and everyone there seems to be on the same page. Seems a lot of guys come from way south with there fish and they seem to be the same guys who will barely shoot the breeze with you when they come in to weigh in. Maybe its just me but I feel like part of those parties after the tournaments is the social aspect. Not grab a check and leave.

I fish in a row boat and only fish out of troy. I have never entered any contest. When how and where do I enter the Ale House contest?

I know in the past you could do it right at the ale house ... in troy on river street.

They have a website too.

Tournament is 5/3

Brook Trout,
Stop in to the Ale House on River St. in Troy, grab a beer and pay them $65.00.Your in. You could call them for details. On May 3 RD, get your boat in the water real early, all ramps are choked for hours, and be ready to fish your ass off at 7:00 AM. Ale House and the local sponsors throw a good party after the tournament is over. Beer, music, food prizes and fish stories.
I was thinking about what others mentioned earlier, the possible cheaters at tournaments. Think the organizers took care of that by having all the contests on the same day. Not so good for the honorable ones that just love tournaments.
