Default New to striper fishing

Hi everyone!

I would like any advice you could give about fishing for stripers from shore!
Major question I have is what size baitcasting reel would be sufficient for shore fishing?

Thanks Casey!

Thumbs up Re: New to striper fishing

If it were me, I would get a spinning reel, medium sized, with a 7-9 foot spinning rod, M-H weight. I believe you would get more distance and have less reel trouble, making it a more enjoyable experience for you.

I agree with Salty's logic on the spinning reel. However, since you asked about baitcasting, if I were going to buy one today, this is the one I would get:

KDR-364P (with power handle) - 10.6 oz, large capcity spool, and 25 lbs max drag - now there's a baitcasting reel designed for stripers!

Whoa - great price on amazon... Okuma Fishing Tackle Komodo KDR-364P Large Low Profile... Okuma Fishing Tackle Komodo KDR-364P Large Low Profile...
I may just have to splurge...

Just want to chime in agreement to go with Okuma.
To me, Okuma reels are way better dollar for dollar than Shimano.

For a conventional set up try a Penn Squall 15 and a 10 ft. 3 to 6oz. Diawa Saltiga rod. If you decide on spinning I like the same rod in spinning and maybe Diawa Emblem Pro surf reel. I have used both and you can't go wrong. IMOHO I do prefer the conventional set up.
