Default Re: Live Bait vs Artificial

I'm a newbie but I have some input on artificial vs. bait... It's a rotating cycle I find. Early spring I go with bait...clams mostly...worms are out of site price wise so I haven't used them in the past couple seasons...then May rolls around and the bunker start up heavy and it's a great time to start plugging...of coarse if you run across a school of bunker, it's right back to bait...SNAG 'EM UP AND LIVE LINE...theres no better bait. Summer brings both into play, plug at night,,,bait during daylight. And every self respecting STRIPER fisherman plugs exclusively in the fall...UNLESS those willy bunker give you a shot...then all bets are off.
I can say I have fallen in love with the GULP baits...they just catch fish...and I here they now have an eel.
Good luck and tight lines and thanks for all the input.

I can't wait for the tackle companies to start making plastics that look and smell just like real clams!

Seriously, the only time I fish bait is when I'm skishin. Maybe once or twice in the fall I might sling eels, but usually just when I'm drifting. The rest of the time its bucktails and plugs. Mainly small bucks in spring but it largely depends on location and bait. I'm fishin nights only and the areas I'm fishin are best worked with artificials. I look sor stucture and current-not places you want to soak a clam.
