Default new spining combo need line suggestions

hi guys i'm a newbe here.I decided to spend some bucks and get a nice set up for stripers.I went with a Penn Slammer 560/8ft ugly stick BW heavy action.I fish the hudson near the Troy dam shore/boat live bait and lures.My question is what line to use mono or braid what test and brand will work good?

I'd go with 14# Fireline especially if this is your first experience with braid. Fireline due to it's nature, fused vs braided, is more forgiving and not as prone to windknots.

If the area you're fishing has a lot of snags, rocks and other things that could fray your line you could bump it up to 20#.

If you like mono like I do.
16 or 20 pound ande tournament is great for big stripers.
No wind knots.

I like Power Pro myself, can't stand the Fireline. Sounds like you can get hung up on the bottom alot where you are....for that reason mono is less expensive when you goota respool because you had to many breakoffs. Thanks to Jim I got a good supply of 20# Ande mono now....
