I use a float tube out here in SoCal for fishing ponds, lakes, and the bays.
Many differences between float tubes and pontoons.....both good and bad.
Pontoon boats can hold a ton of your gear, are pretty stable, and some guys out here mount trolling motors on them....not to mention fish finders, GPS units and other stuff.
Id say the only hard part with trolling from a pontoon boat is that you will get tired if using the oars after a while (although this would be perfect for slow moving lures...tube and worm for example).
Also if your figthing a fish and have to move around it will be extremely hard to do without some type of an engine.
They are enormously popular on fresh water as trolling platforms for striper. I'd say over half the striper chasers on Kerr Lake (NC) are doing it from pontoon boats with downriggers. Never done it myself, but they sure look comfortable, and the big ones can handle some pretty rough (lake) water.
