Default Southern RI

Anyone have any tips for Southern RI? I am in Charlestown (right by Westerly, right across from Block Island), have access to a small (15 foot) boat, and am a newbie! Any suggestions for good places/times? I have been going for blues for many years, but as you all know, that doesn't really take much - just follow the birds and they almost jump in the boat. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome Paddy!!!

I'm not much help, as I don't know your area, but there are a bunch of guys on here who know that area pretty well and I'm sure they'll pipe up soon. Hope you enjoy the site, there's a wealth of knowledge here!!

No boat, but if I did have one I've been on plenty of charters that fish:

Watch Hill Reef, Fishers Island, Fishers Island Sound, out to the Race.

I've seen boaters land monster stripers off the beaches from Matanuck to Watch Hill, but I've never fished it by boat so I can give you any markers.

Book a charter and see where they go.

Default Some Good Fishing Southern RI

There is some really good fishing and only will get better. I'm not sure where I would go on a 15' because as you know calms seas one minute and 3 to5 the next. I like Matunuck and Carpentars Bar for surf, Black Point and a few others... ells on a three way off the beach or rocks some nice plugs and lures into the surf for starters...

What kind of boat ?

Thanks guys! This is a great site with a lot of great information. I've had some luck with small stripers surf casting right off the Charlestown breachway, but never any keepers.

The boat is a 2004 Boston Whaler 150 Sport with a brand new 60 horsepower Nissan 4-stroke. It's actually not too bad in small swells and a hell of a lot better than the 1964 13 foot Whaler we had last year. Have you ever had any luck off of Block Island?
