Default Reel Advice

I was in the process of placing an order for a Van Staal VS 100 yesterday after having a hard time locating one. Anyway, I found out that all current production reels are not made in the USA, I had no idea. Since I wont be purchasing one now I am looking for advice on reels. I like the ZeeBaas but they're too big for the fishing I do right now. Shimano Sustains look good for the money. Not sure which way to go.

The 100 is pretty small but I like to use it even on a 9 foot arra.
The fact that its production is overseas doesnt really matter to me as the warranty factory and repairs are done in the states.
W.C. Bradley Company repair facilities are in Tulsa Oklahoma and they own Zebco who is now the parent of Van Staal.

I wouldnt want to give any one advice on an expensive reel - thats a preference thing. IMO you cant go wrong with the high end shimanos either.

Thanks Jim, you make a good point. I have recently had a bad experience with a high dollar fly reel that the company moved production overseas and I am not a big fan. The bad part is that I want a Van Staal, there seems to be nothing that comes close to thier quality. I did find a new US made reel today and I'm 99% sure I will buy it tomorrow. Thanks for your input.

You beat me to it
I was going to say "look for a used reel"

Be sure it's been serviced by VS recently before you buy. There are many stories of guys getting charged hundreds of dollars by VS to bring their reel back to warranty standard.

I want to see a review write up about it after fishing with it.
