that depends, do you want to catch fish? look for the bait fish, chances are the bass are under or at least near them. the canal can be really tough on the ego. i drove 2 hours last weekend only to lose a few lures, no fish. i guess i wasnt looking hard enough.

Tigges,

My suggestion is to drive to the herring run, bring a bike and ride along the bike trail and scope out spots, look for rips and eddies,or any where there seems to be a concentration of baitfish hanging around.

Surfcasting there can be tricky, there arealot of rocks to walk over, some that are loose so watch your footing, and if your casting anything that sinks be careful of the rocks under the water, there are plenty of places to get caught up.

yup, cover some ground and stay mobil.. don't spend too much time at one spot... one word, "bike"

we caught absolutely nothing on plugs or poppers last weekend.. all jigs
3-4-5oz with two-toned rubbah tailers--dark and light colored..

and like CK says, look for the rips

good luck
