Default Bait shop in Portsmouth??

Guys- Need your help.

I live in Belmont (NH) and fish out of Rye Harbor. This year I'm trying to learn tube and worm technique, but I've encountered a problem. The only place I can find sand worms in the Portsmouth area is Suds and Soda in Greenland... good shop, but they don't open until 7:00am. I like to be on the water by 6:00.

I though about picking up some each trip and keeping them until the next week. But I'm told they won't last a week in the fridge.

Anyone willing to share a good bait shop in the Portsmouth area that sells sand worms and is open early?? Or maybe a way to keep these critters alive for a week??

Thanks,
TomB

Your worms will stay good for a week or more if you do not allow them to become saturated in the liquid in the bottom of the container.

Line the bottom of the container with a sheet of paper towel to absorb the excess water leaked out by the seaweed.

If the paper towel gets soaked just replace it. This is how we keep our worms fresh for winter smelt fishing on the Great Bay tributaries.

What really works great are the wax coated cardboard containers they use to ship worms in bulk. You also need the absorbent on the bottom.

Hey Coalman,

Thanks for the idea. I'll bring some back next trip and try it out.
