Default striper bait

hey there.....been reading about the alewive /herring run in the ct. river in the spring and that's a big diet for those stripers during the run. is there a certain lure to catch those bait fish....something like a willow leaf. who has those?, definitely want in on that game.

Don't even think about it...

"The taking of anadromous alewife and
blueback herring is prohibited from all
Connecticut waters including Long
Island Sound."

It is indeed the law...not just CT, but the entire coast. And, as hunter12 stated, there are reasons for the law. Before you fish, know the regulations. Here are a couple of links:

So you catch them in certain lakes and use them for bait
But you can't do the same in the CT. River and use them for bait?

I believe it's only during the spawning run that they aren't suppose to be fished for?

Please read the forums cardboard box gave to you. years ago when I was discharged from the army, I took a job learning to be a Ranger. One thing i found out very quickly was there is no ignorance of the law. When in training we would approach hunters and fishermen who told the warden ,I didn't know. They were find in proportion with the law broken . Be careful.
