Hey all. After last summer catching snapper blues, fluke and garbage fish, I decided to try Striper fishing in the Fall. Well, Fall has come and gone and I have yet to catch a bass. Spared no expense. Tried chunking bunker and clams and a variety of bombers with no luck all fall. Went before sunset, during the day and at night. Started in September and surrendered in November. May have had one, but forgot to loosen the drag after reeling in to rebait, and the pole took off into the water. I dove in after it and luckily caught it, only to find that the line had snapped. Needless to say, I feel defeated.
With spring coming I am determined to land one. I plan on trying the beachfront again, but this weekend and a few to come I would like to try the bay flats. I have a tin can of a boat that I've been runnin around the bay since I was 12, so my mobility is limited. Can't do the inlets, but can certainly get around the flats and intercoastals in the bay.
I'm looking for any advice at all on fishing the flats from a boat. I've got the beachfront procedure down(or so I thought).
What does it take to land a striper on a boat in the flats of Long Beach Island?
