The plug looks good to me, mackeral color will probably work best if your trying to "match the hatch" but a darker color might work at different times 'cause it has a more defined shilloutte (SP?). I'm no expert at topwater but it looks like it might catch a bass or two.....

When you think about it, does mackeral color even matter? The fish only see the underside of a topwater plug right? Some plugs look all fancy to "hook the buyer" not the fish. Seems like darker/lighter colors are a better guide to go by rather than just color patterns.

An excellent plug, one of the best

Has two problems one fixable, one not

Too expensive - tough one to fix

Like the pencil poppers Yozuri puts out the finish seems to leap off the plug the first time you fish it. Fixable.
To keep this from happening the first thing I do when i get on is to remove the hooks and give the plug two very thin coats if 6o minute epoxy using a small foam brush (look in the lure building forum on for detailed instructions on epoxying plugs). When dry, replace the hooks and the plugs finish will last for a very long time.

For the price they should be doing this in the factory !!

Thank you, guys!
I'll put some extra coating. It is a good idea.
What has surprised me, that lure in reality looks a little bit bulky and floating by "head up" style. Probably it was designed for "jerking" retrieving.
Good luck,
ING

IM a big fan of Yo-Zuri plugs I got a free $50 gift card to Dicks & I found the new Yo-Zuri "Shasemi plugs" they were $27.99 a piece I bought 2 & it only cost me $6 bucks.
Anyway IM a Whore for there plugs so I had to get them.
They are flexable and a nice Polaris style plug, they are plyable, change color when moving, they have rattles & look awesome!
I hope to catch w/ them .

The Shashemi plugs are the bottom 2 in da pic

I too am a Yo-Zuri fan a Pro Staffer for them. The Surface Cruiser is a favorite of mine and despite the finish coming off they still catch if totally naked of paint.

I fished the Surface Bull of the Surf and it is indeed a heavy plug that is great for wind in your face days but you need a sturdy10-11 foot rod to really work it.

i have plenty of them like that. here are a few (i can find) that are weathered. the 2 on the right are actually made for me that way and then epoxied. call me eccentric but i would fish some of my tattered fly's before i use my pretty ones

btw, brian, the color pattern is to sell you on the plug not the fish. the mac pattern is great if there are macs in the area you fish/ they see the bottom of the plug alright but the top of the water from a fish;s perspective is like a mirror and the top of the plug (in clear water and good light conditions will be noticed but the sillouette of the plug and the swimming action are more of what you wanna be concerned with. sometimes the subtle differences in a plugs makeup will trigger strikes/ in certain instances a darter with chartreuse back will work better than it it were painted black. a yellow swimmer will look darker than a blue one underwater in certain conditions. that;'s where "throwing the bag" is gonna get the right plug for the right water condition. some guys (like sudsy and others i know intuitively know what color to throw in a given situation. your time on the water and paying attention to what happens when and keeping a log of it will pay dividends down the road.

Thanks Zim, I kinda figured that most plugs are bought cause they look good to the fisherman buying them. You might find it hard to believe but I have no clue what a darter is....is it the same as a pencil popper? I wish I was an expert on knowing what colors to use in what locations.....when it comes to colors I usually just choose something that resembles the baitfish in that area......but a lot of fish are caught on colors that don't even exist in that area.

Those darters look sweet.....what exactly do they do though? Dart back and forth? They are a top water plug right? Thanks for that link though Jimi.

yes...they dart side to side. they are best used in moving water. let the current work the lure giving an occasional twitch. i am new to darters myself but ive had a few lessons from some of the darter fans at a few of the gatherings. the action on a well built darter is very wounded bait like...perfect weapon to produce a strike from a hungry bass.

Suds,

I couldn't agree with you more, the finish on those pencils tries to jump off on the first cast, definetly made me upset after buying a 20 dollar pencil.
