Default Penn 650 SS Housing Cover

With great instruction, I completely cleaned all of the dried grease out and packed in new grease. The next morning I took it to the beach for a quick session. When I rinsed my equipment off, I noticed that water was leaking from the housing.

So, I pull the whole thing apart and inspect it thouroughly to find a hairline crack in the housing cover. I took my fingers and wiggled it a little to get the whole effen corner of the cover to break off! (this is why I never work on my own car)

I have spent the past week searching for the housing cover (part# 045-650) and have came up empty.

What do I do?

Wow, I didn't think you COULD break that part
You sir, have talent

The cheapest option will be to hunt down a busted old beater somewhere, Here, there, ebay.................. Probably be cheaper, definitely be easier, then tracking down a new part.

I did check one place for you , Brielle Bait and Tackle in Brielle, NJ 732-528-5720
They have part # 045n65000 which is the side plate for the 6500
I don't know if it's interchangeable, you'll have to check with Penn.

I checked ebay first and busted reels are going for around $30. For that price, I can get a piece of crap new reel.

I'll check into the interchangability (if that is a word) of the 6500 and 650 covers.

If you think that housing cover is tough to break, you should see what I did to my fuel line (also made of metal) on my old 1985 Grand Prix. I feel like the Incredible Hulk sometimes.

Haha, a few of my friends that also have the same reel were rooting for my failure so they could canabalize it.

I would like to thank Beaver Tail Rod and Reel in Kingston, RI for coming up with the impossible. I contacted no less than 40 shops that sold old penn parts and David Morton of Beaver Tail (the actual first e-mail I sent out) responded with good news.

Great service and a genuine nice guy. If you are hunting down parts or need Rod or Reel repair, his prices are great and the service was outstanding.

His contact info is:
