Got one herring last night up by the troy dam about an hour after the high peak. Took about 10 minutes with a sabiki. I probably could've caught more but I put that herring on a hook and threw it back out there... no bites unfortunately.
Jigged up three in the river today standing on the wall by Bruno's in South Troy in about 45 minutes, but then lost my rig and didn't have another with me. Nothing at the falls in the Posty.
The Herring are stocked up heavy in the Fallkill Creek, Poughkeepsie Caught my 10 on a sabiki rig in about 30 minutes. DEC officer was there and gave a guy a ticket for snagging.
ByThis morning about 930 am i saw atleast a dozen come out of the white water in the falls of the posty.. Nothing swiming around though, didnt see any until they started pulling them out
There is a difference between foul-hooked and snatching (snagging). Its a matter of intent. See page 54 of the hand-out, definitions of snatching, blind snatching, and foul hooked; page 51, Snatching; and page 50, foul hooking. Only foul-hooked trout and walleye from certain waters are illegal to keep.
Well. Yesterday was the first I've seen balls of bait boiling near shore in Kingston. I'm sure many others have but I was able to jig a few finally without struggling. Ball was about 50 fish and took about 5 minutes to get 4.
