Went south from Albany today, marked some on the FF but spotty, did not bite. Regarding the cats, they will kill the live herring pretty quick so fishing just live is no panacea. The channel cats are an invasive species, 20 years ago there used to be nothing but black and brown bullheads, now they are virtually gone. My opinion? The channels wiped out the shad, and the herring are next. The population will crash and we're all gonna' die.
All I know is I have no issues with the cats when fishing live but as soon as chunk hits the bottom they are there and the rod tips bouncing. its annoying. Fished yesterday for a couple hours with chunk and the rod tips didn't stop. Got one cat that managed to snare its self in my line other then that a dead screen.
my buddy had 47 degrees out there yesterday. I told him to go fish largemouth and try back when the water warms a bit. Any word on water temp in albany from someone actually on the water?
Fished out of Schodack Island yesterday morning for about 5 hours. Temp was running around 50 to 51. No herring, one run but couldn't hook up. Otherwise, just cats on frozen chunk.

Saturday was runnin around 51, yesterday was runnin mid 49.
Getting bait has been brutal the last couple of days in Greene. It took 3 hours of non stop scaping to get two. Days like this make me miss my gillnet.
