Register now for 2006 LBI New Jersey surf fishing tournament

It's just one more reminder to us that fall is just around the corner when we receive information concerning the Long Beach Island Surf Fishing Tournament sponsored by the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce.

This annual affair will get underway on Saturday, Oct. 7, and run through Sunday, Nov. 19. The fishing is continuos, every day and 24 hours per day during that time. Fishing is restricted to the shores of Long Beach Island (ocean, inlet, bay and jetties.) No boat fishing is allowed.
Only striped bass and bluefish are eligible for prizes in this competition. There are daily, weekly and grand prizes and the event is divided into three segments of two weeks each, for which the grand prizes will be awarded.
In addition, there are thousands of dollars in special prizes presented by businesses, fishing clubs and tournament participants and sponsors. The first 1,000 registered anglers will also receive a hat and other gifts.
In order to register you may do so at the Surf City Bait and Tackle, Fisherman's Headquarters, Jingle's Bait and Tackle and the Barnegat Light Bait and T, or at the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce in Ship Bottom. The 53rd annual Long Beach Island Surf Fishing Classic kicks off Oct. 6 and runs through Nov. 18, The LBI Surf Fishing Classic, which is for bluefish and striped bass only, includes thousands of dollars in daily, weekly and grand prizes, including $1,000 for the heaviest striper and bluefish caught during the tournament.
