Baitfeeder Reel dilema?

Okuma Baitfeeder.
Shimano Baitrunner.
Penn Live Liner.
Tica.

Which has the least problems? I have searched the posts and all seem to have problems.
I have a Penn 950ssm now and love it. So I,m kinda going that way. Most here like the Shimano but it has bail problems.
I want to match it with a 11' rod. Most likely a Tica. I have a 10'6" Tica that has never not preformed.

Personally i'd go with the shimano, but that's just me. There baitfeeders seem to be the best in my eyes...

the tica next.
the penn.
and the shimano.
in that order of my disgust as i hate all baitrunner reels.
but that's just me. if i were to actually entertain the thought of using one?
it would be the shimano Thunnus. but that is way too big for what you want. but..... if your lugging around a 950 penn then why not go for the monster of all monster baitrunners? you could skip a bass off the top of the water with one of those...

i had a okuma go to sh!t after 2 seasons...just cant take the constant hard reeling and drag ripping...

Keep it serviced. In other words tear it down and clean it each season and rinse it every outing.

I have and like Shimano.The truth is I very seldom use the baitrunner feature anymore.In the conditions where I fish{ muddy water Bays and Rivers}, I have higher success hook sets, just using a sinker slide, with big circle hooks..Rarely do I get the tap,tap,tap.It's mostly just a grab and run.I 'm sure this is due to the low visibility conditions.When the Bass finds something he wants, he just sucks it up.Any thoughts on this from you muddy water guys?

Hey... don't knock the Tica. I picked up the "Striper Collector" bait feeder reel last season and it did pretty well. Yeah, sure it'll flex a little if ya got the drag cranked down, but if ya keep it dialed in it's a nice buy for the $$$. Has a numbered dial for the "Hit and Run" drag, so it's nice to see where you're set up. Doesn't look bad either (if ya wanna go there).

i don't knock or hate anything. just don't think my description warrants justification or explanation. it's my disdain for a method and nothing more. when you miss a fish you will (and there IS nobody that will not experience this inevitable conundrum) think of this thread. oh,,,, i'm sorry? did someone say I NEVER LOSE A FISH?. BS.. i can recall getting into quality fish and using one of these jobby's and having taken the baitrunner option off. took more fish without it with my own method of fishing. that reel resides on the bottom of lemon creek. enjoy the lazy mans reel and depend on a mechanism to guide you to your fish... i baitfish early spring and then that is over quickly. never was there an invention so ingenious but yet so frustrating for striped bass fishermen. enjoy your reels friends. they will catch you alot more fish than without as, many here have bought them cause they cannot READILY catch a bass without one.and nooooooo i didn't direct that toward the above posters.........

oh, and that tica is a piece of crap as you will find out soon enough.. just my answer to your inquiry. please do tell me when it happens and be honest about it. i won't say i told you so or anything. i'm not always right and i don't like to put down a product just because i saw the one mishap with one but, i do. i've seen way too much chit not to be skeptical about new gear and will not say bad things about what i know nothing of.

alot of the time they will pick up a head and spit it out to get the scales off of it. the baitrunner is notorious for lost fish as the sneak attack? the pluck? the drag the bait syndrome? the mangle of the bait? the nudging of the bait? the "i don't know wtf to do to cull a fish syndrome..brown water is surprizingly good to fish. a red tide/algae bloom? not so much.

None of that red tide garbage where I fish.The water is muddy all the time.The bay is basically miles of mud flats at low tide.It's hard to find any structure to fish in most areas.I'm with you on the baitrunners.There's so many bait fish, and eels that play with the bait in my area that on some tides the rod never stops twitching.I see guys trying to set the hook on every little twitch.I don't even touch the rod anymore till she goes down, and stays down for a few seconds.All of the fishing in this area is bait fishing due to the water conditions, unless there is some type of lure that works in muddy water that I am unaware of?Do any of you muddy water guys use eels?I'm wondering how well they would work in the muddy water fished using the cast and slow reel method?I'm thinking maybe a dead eel fished with a sinker slide would probably be good in these conditions?Any thoughts?
