Re: Can someone explain a uni knot?
The uni knot is an excellent knot for attaching Mono to Braid. Use about a 6' mono shock leader as this is really the only stretch you have in your line. The website below has an excellent series of diagrams on how to do it. Be careful you don't make them too tight before sliding them down onto each other, otherwise they won't slide.

Re: Can someone explain a uni knot?
For braid to mono, think about using an Albright or Crazy Alberto.

Re: Can someone explain a uni knot?
any cinch/ hitch type knot is not good in braid to mono/fluoro application imo.
try the albright/modified or the slim beauty. tripple surgeons knot comes to mind but alot of knot goin thru eye. i would stay away from any clinch knot for that particular method. alot of your knots like "uni knot" {which btw is a go to knot for mono to swivel/plugs etc.} "morrum guide knot" etc. can and do slip. if you have to go with braid to mono/fluoro - then the above 2 knots albright/modified which is the SIMPLE SIMON DOUBLE AKA "CRAZY ALBERTO" or the SLIM BEAUTY. lots of admirers of other decent knots to go to but just my 2 cents

Re: Can someone explain a uni knot?
For Braid to Mono I like to use the Sebile/FG knot. Both are about the same as Patrick Sebile saw the FG being tied in Japan and developed his version when he got back to the US. There is not strength loss due to knot and if tied right there are no tag ends to hang up on guides or level wind guides. I will psot a version here but at the end before you cut your braid tag but clip your mono about 1/8" tie several overhand knots to cover the tag of mono. I then like to clip monovery close then super glue end.
Also to lube your knot try chapstick as siliva(spit) can damage the line. If you are using small braid then make sure to criss-cross(wraps) to about 15 . If tied right then your line or leader will break before the knot will! Search this site for the FG knot video if you like
This video shows how to finish(cover mono tag) at the end. Not sure If I can post this video so I will post 2 of them. I think the youtube one is slightly different.

Somewhere on this site I also posted some strength tests I did-simply amazing. A little difficult to tie at first but you will get the hang of it. Hell I can hardly remember 1/2 the knots anyway. But with this knot unless you need to change rig/leader or damage your main line you can leave it on all year. I have seen posts where some people have done just that. The Japanese have been using it for years

Re: Can someone explain a uni knot?
I tried to tie that knot for 6 hrs. last night! watched the video over and over, tried and tried, the braid would just slide off the mono. I gave up, had a couple beers and went to bed. I'm going to give it another try tonight, I like the looks of it and it looks like it'll go through the guides nice, but if I can't get it to hold I'll go back to the uni/uni. Craig

Try the slim beauty. Its in this thread here.
It also has a good fg / sebile knot video that Brian was referring to.

Re: Can someone explain a uni knot?
Well I tried again for a few hrs. and gave up. I was running out of line. "striperjim" I tried that slim beauty and that works pretty well. Seems strong, maybe not as slim as the FG but I can't break it ! Looks like that's what I'm using. Hoping for tuesday, weather permitting!! Hey "striperjim" I see you also are in the Pocono's, anywhere near Wacky Worm? thanks everybody very much for all the help.....Craig

Re: Can someone explain a uni knot?
Craig,
What were you using for braid and mono/flouro? I just tied the knot using 30 pound Fireline and 40 pound Yo-zuri hybrid. Tied loops on both ends and tried to make the knot fail. The braid failed first and not at the knot. All knots held well.
