Default Color Fishing Line... really important?

I just want to know the best fishing line color for fishing in Hudson River/striper/saltwater, I have heard about that Red Line, but there are many factor (night, sun, water clarity) I just want to know in general terms what is the better color main line for this kind of fishing.

I have heard a CLEAR fluorocarbon leader is a must.
Speaking of colors, is very common seeing RED hooks in almost all the leads in the fishing stores, how important is this?

What color would you recommend ?

20# yo-zuri Hybrid fluorocarbon line with a 30# yo-zuri fluorocarbon leader. red hooks are for chunking bait and the red is for show. (has some qualities that cajun red line) in deeper water but better off with the yo-zuri

In very clear water a flouro leader is a good idea.
If the water is even a little off colored save your money go with mono

Unless you're finesse worming for largemouth bass and need to watch the line for subtle bites, the main lines color really doesn't matter.
I fish dark green braid, light green braid, bright yellow braid, mono............ no noticeable difference due to the color. If bright yellow Fireline is on sale and green isn't, I go with bright yellow.

When it comes to color only the leader really seems to matter and then only in clear water.

Line color I wouldn't think would matter... But a Flouro or Mono Leader is a MUST.

Yup, waste of expensive leader - save it for when it will make a difference.

they can still see that line in darker water. if light is refracted off something like another fish. light won't penetrate through mud but i am sure it reflects/refracts off a multitude of particles in cloudy water. i take no chances as how do you determine what you will be gearing up for to begin with when you live miles from the beach? i leave the scientific stuff to you proffessionals and gear up accordingly *(unless i have fish hooks in my pockets)

Over the past years I've had way, way more nights back in the dingy water of Raritan bay when the guy with mono leader did just as well as me with my expensive flouro leader.

Keep in mind, I fish at night (I should have prefaced my earlier comments with this).
Dirty water at night, what's the point of flouro ??

As for gearing up, I have a fairly large selection of pretied hook n leaders in little ziplock bags in my surf bag at all times during the spring, especially in early spring when it's all about bait. When the water warms and I'm mostly plugging I only carry two or three bait rigs and they're flouro.

i am slowly extracting the information necessary to perform at the level of the mighty one who makes the big bucks here. i strive to be your servant and bow to you in envious fashion.. please feel free to correct me each and every time i arrive oh mighty one... i am but a lowly underling in the vast array of inferior disciples you garner. forgive my insolence master baiter...

Colors are gimmicky IMO. but if red gives you confidence use it.
The idea in design being that the color red disappears at 10 feet of water.
But the science tells us it really turns grey. We can speculate until the cows come home (Which will be about 100 days or so) but available light - clarity of water - species of fish - appetite - metabolic needs -aggressiveness or lack there of - likely play a larger role. Myself i prefer the light to bend on the line close to the bend in water (in gin clear water) which would be the fluorocarbon leader.

Back to the topic.

The lightest line possible is always best as far as stealth is concerned.
Color ?? - As long as it refracts clear.
