After sweating in my 3mm neoprenes for a couple years, and patching many leaks, I decided it was time for a new pair of breathables. I was looking hard at the
Simms G4 Guide waders. These are quite pricey (around $700), but had all the features I was looking for.
Then I came across the
William Joseph Dry-namic waders. Basically the same features as the G4 Guide, plus a couple nice features that the G4 does not have, and much more reasonable at $289.00.
For a tall skinny guy like me, it's usually a problem to get both the correct inseam length and chest measurement in a pair of waders, usually have to compromise somewhere, and this was no exception. Had to go with the XL to accomodate my 37" inseam, and the chest is a little large, but there is a draw string on the top, and I usually wear a surf top or dry top over them anyway. The shoulder straps were also a little too long, but that was easily fixed, and better than having the inseam too short and movement restricted. I doubt a more normally proportioned person would have the fit problems that I tend to have to deal with.
Features I like over the G4? Additional pockets, all with waterproof zippers. The integrated gravel guards are awesome. The stocking foot is better reinforced, and the seams seem to be better constructed.
I've had them for 2 weeks now and have so far spent 76 hours fishing in them. No complaints. Very comfortable, and a pair of waders that I feel comfortable recommending to anyone.
