Re: Favorite Tag along rodreel
Always available as a backup - a 9' 6" Lami XS96MHS with a 704, 20# Fireline, with a modified wire bail. I made the mechanism that locks it in place when open inoperable. Now you can flip it by hand. This makes it less likely to get wind knots and makes it possible to fish live bait, a very difficult thing to do with a manual pickup.
I can do virtually anything off the surf with this setup. Not as well as with the setups geared towards the various applications but well enough to get by if one of the main setups breaks.
Also, a few tip tops and tip top cement, a few spare Abu pawls (I go though a few of them a year), a set of tools, oil and grease for doing field repairs, and a selection of leader materials, swivels, hooks and snaps for field tying leaders.
In the spring when I'm fishing a lot of bait I carry a few spare sinkers on fishfinders and an extra 7000 size Abu or a Squidder.
