I am new to surf casting for stripers. I have freshwater fished for stripers in Tennessee but I am now working in NYC and plan on surf casting this summer. I have been to Gateway National Park on Sandy hook in New Jersey and thought I would give it a try there. Any pointers and hints will be greatly appreciated.
Welcome to the site Bearhunter! Post up in the Mid-Coast forum. Quite a few guys on here fish that area who I'm sure will be glad to point you in the right direction
The summer can be difficult for stripers. Usually after the first week in July until September the fish go to cooler pastures.
There will be however plenty of bluefish in the surf.
The party boats switch to sea bass - fluke and Bluefish during that time period.
Hey bearhunter, welcome to the site..........check out this link on distance casting I dug up from the archives here awhile back, good stuff indeed!!!! Any other questions, search the forums or ask away, more than enough guys on here willing to share their infinite wisdom......or you can PM me and I'll learn ya the ass backwards way I do things, which still catches fish btw.
