Re: custom rod ?
jim has some good info but is fishing as we speak. i couldn;t hook up with him tonight. when sudsy gets back he will see this and jump on it. i forever want to do that myself and gunny has all the rodbuilding expertise. my new winter project is a spey rod i am gonna build. pm gunnysniper and ask him. most are fishing and miss alot of threads as they get lost in the shuffle this time of year. first you need to be specific on the size and or what specifically ie; plugging/deadsticking/jigging etc. you know the drill

Re: custom rod ?
when suds gets back he will give you the poop on who in no. jersey to go to. ed white might help as well. i had a custom rod and it was fine till it got damaged. not good as you need to have some kind of insurance when it comes to an expensive rod. an 11ft lami will be as good as most custom rods but if you are shorter than most your comfort shouldn;t suffer on the beach and by all means get one designed specifically for your needs.

Re: custom rod ?
As a matter of fact, My better half actually believes that hanging out in the shop, affectionetly known as, "Man Town", is quality time.
She watches me do my thing and we talk. I am actually looking forward to teaching her, as she has requested, some of the more mundane beginner skills and progressing on through the finished product. In other words while I'm at work she'll be gluing up handles and seats, and then underwraps, etc., etc., etc.,................
I have had the itch to go back into production work for some time now.
I now have an important motivation to get me to plunge deep into the abyss, It's back on again with the girls, so trip is on, montauk is out.
So time spent building also equals time spent with wife, equals can't go wrong.
Send your orders guy's the bench is waiting for you.

Re: custom rod ?
If shipping messes up your deal with Gunny (an 11', one piece rod is nearly unshippable) I know a few guys in the area.
Where are you located ??

Anthony,
It's not a custom but I just purchased a Lami XS11MS to take to Montauk with me, 11', throws pencils a mile, and I can get them to splash all the way back in. Throws swimmers/metal/bombers/shads and the like pretty well too.
I bought it for flingin' big wood, got to Montauk and every fish I caught was on a bomber....
Had about $1000.00 worth of wood in the truck too......
Anyway, if you get down this way give me a call, and you can try mine for a point of reference.

Re: custom rod ?
I do know 4 guys that build quality sticks
Zim, who used to own Stevens Tackle in Long Branch
Eric Peterson in Belmar
Bogans in Point Pleasant
Big Country - Dave, about 45 minutes out on Long Island
If you want any phone numbers shoot me a PM
(except Bogans - he's got a storefront and is in the phone book)
