Default Total BS

My boat is slipped in Salisbury,MA...

I get to my boat last night and found a ticket inside...

Says "Waterways Permit"...What the hell is that for... I already
registered the damn boat...

Way too many beaurocrats siphoning money for no reason. How the
hell this guy found my boat among 200 others at my marina is beyond me... I'm sure
a few others must have gotten them... Am I nieve?

You need to pay a yearly fee to the town of Salisbury that is around $3 / ft. You can pay at the town hall in Salisbury during the harbormasters (somewhat limited) office hours.

The harbormasters typically go around (via land) to each of the marinas and check each boat for the sticker, and you found out the hard way what the penalty is.

Not much you can do about it, I'm afraid. They will make you pay it one way or the other, and when you go to register your boat with them next year, the first thing they do is to check to see if you are still on the "unpaid" list.

So you will have to pay the fine, and the original fee on top of it.

Yeah, that sucks. Several, not all, towns down here have similar fees for using "their" water. Seems totally wrong to me...

I'd be happy they didn't tow your boat, I know they do that in Hingham if the mooring tax isn't paid....

A halfway acceptable end to the ticket or permit..

Not that I'm happy at all with having to pay for a permit mind you.

The HarborMaster was once again at the Marina on Saturday.
I figured I'd get another ticket right...

Well, got up enough nerve to talk to him. Figured I'd inquire
about the process... It appears that the Owner of the Marina
allowed him on the doc...IE Private Property.

I told him that it was my first year (True) in Salisbury and
that I had no idea. He was good enough to accept my lack of
understanding and ate the ticket. Still cost me $100 bucks
for the permit but I didn't have to pay the ticket....

At least he was fair...

The important thing here was that I didn't have an
attitude. Cause I figured I'd see him again for some
other issue...

Good way to play it ...it is a very small town and it sounds like you're going to be around for a while.

Ray is a good guy and he and his assistants do a nice job, for probably very short money. I hate "yet another tax" as much as anyone, but at least i feel they spend it well.

btw, always appreciate your posts Capt

that sucks about the fees. boats should be free or such fees seeing as the definition of Boat is= a hole in the water that your pour money into.
