Default Luck or skill

What do u other anglers believe it takes to catch a striper. Is it skill, luck or just being in the right place at the right time. I have spent alot of hours out on the hudson with no avail. Today being 1 of those. Fished the river this morning south of the rvw for about 6hours. Did have 2 runs. Try again in the A.M

I spend many hours on the river and i am going to say KNOWLEDGE ! Of course being in the right area with the right bait, your going to hook up sooner or later. BUT, having the right equipment & knowing WHERE to look for them is a major key factor. Me and my crew are still fine tuning each year. We find something to tweak to make it just a little better. Fish with different people and you will learn some new trick AS WELL as show them a new trick.

I saw it 1st hand again today. was aboard ACE CHARTERS again on a scouting mission, and he knew what to do to put us on fish. His 20 years of Striper fishing the river helped alot.

IMO

A lot of people think fishing is all luck. To an extent it is; you could be using all the right gear and the right bait or lure and be fishing at the right time of day/night + 100 other perfect factors, but if there's no fish in the area how are you gonna catch a fish? Maybe the fish aren't hungry. I love fishing because a lot of it is skill and technique but in the end you have to remember that you have to be in the right place at the right time. Keep in mind though, you can't choose where the fish are....but you can FIND where they are if you do some detective work.

Well said brother

I caught fish the last 4 trips out due to just that. Wasn't easy & put lots of time and miles in to find them.
