Hello I am new to this forum but I thought I would share my experience I had on a recent fishing charter I was on this past Saturday. I have been fishing my entire life. I have been as far south as Turks and Caicos and as far north as northern Quebec Canada and everywhere in between. I went out on a striper charter with my 3 cousins with captain scotti the "live bunker specialist" out of Staten Island New York to fish the raritan. Well for the amount of money we spent the trip was absolutely horrible and completely unprofessional. We paid for an 8 hour trip which lasted 6 hours. Of those 6 hours over an hour was spent trying to get gas for his boat. We ran out of gas in the marina ( which is where we were fishing 150 yards from where he had his boat docked) The gas pump at the dock was broken so my cousin had to get off this guys boat and take his gas can and drive to the gas station to get gas for him. We spent an hour and half trying to net bunker which managed to all die in this guy's live well. There was no wind or tide so we did not cover any ground what so ever with the few live bunker that we managed to keep alive. He tried no other tactics. No trolling , no jigging , no plugs. We weren't allowed to use our own rods. He casted his rods for us and handed them to us. The only striper we seen attacked my bunker on the surface and he ran over and ripped the rod out of my hands and tried landing the fish himself gave me zero chance to try and land him. Not one striper was caught and 1 bite all day unless you count all the bluefish that were eating our bait in half which we were not allowed to fish for because he didn't want to get blood in his boat. I have fished with a lot of captains and some were great some were not so great but I have never experienced anything like this in my life. For $800 you expect a little more than floating around in the marina. Good captains will work to get you fish this guy tried nothing and cut the trip short even after all the time lost trying to get gas and more bait. 3 1/2 hours of actual fishing is what we got. Just thought I would share my experience and hopefully
Prevent someone else from getting robbed like we did.
He didn't offer any kind of discount. We literally ran out of gas within 2 minutes of being on the water. I forgot to add that he kept using the hose to wash the boat down and there was about 5 inches of water in the back of the boat he had no Bilge pump our feet were under water the whole time. It really was a terrible experience.
We are spreading the word about this guy so that hopefully we can save somebody from getting ripped off like we did. We are posting our experience on fishing forums and we contacted the great American outdoor show which is where we booked this trip.
I would contact Capt. Scotti with a detailed and accurate complaint of your trip. Explain why you feel you didn't get what you paid for. Document your on line posts and other letters or calls you have written. Explain why you feel you're entitled to refund and how much, give him 7 days to respond, and if none pursue small claims. Send the letter certified as well. Good luck!
