Default Herring Police

I noticed signs at most of the major herring runs yesterday.

Wow, thats ashame....no Herring moving through there at that point. Wow. Even more of a shame, that there are people out there than can take, take, take, but when asked to give back, they thumb their nose.

Personally I don't use herring. Never have. I do use scup and am very happy with the results.

I hope the poachers all get caught.

In Plymouth I've seen 4 or 5 guys at a time poaching at night (not this year yet though). There was a "NO taking of Herring" sign that someone ripped down a few years ago...........yet to be replaced.

I stick with Macks myself, but I check the runs every spring as a guage for when the bass will arrive, the stocks are deffinately down the last few years given the very limited activity I have see when checking the runs.

Dood that sucks...we have "sign Rippers" here too. Best thing to do is ignore them, but in the background get their license plate written down, and the best description you can and call the MA F&G hotline. Dont let people get away with it. The liberal penalties are bad enough

Definately do you r part to stop people from doing something stupid, because the result only hurts us honest fishermen in th long run.

Even though I don't fish MA waters, I will do my part in not taking any or even buying them in Maine. In addition, I plan to promote this activity amongst the local Maine fisherman and have discussions with the baitshop owners I frequent. I'm thinking of asking them to allow me to put up a poster helping to explain the low stocks and what they can do to help the situation. I will also put up a similar poster down on the docks in hopes of persuading some of the lobsta men. But, IMO, that'll be a tuffer fight and probably will be ripped down in <24 hours.

I don't care about the impact on fisherman. My concern is the security of the eco-system.
