Default 30 minute limits

My wife, daughter, and I made the annual summertime trek to Cape Cod to meet up
with my folks and family who were holding there for about a week.

I packed the surf fishing gear, but because we were only there for three
and a half days...It never made it to the sand. I did plan ahead and
booked a charter with Captain Bobby Rice to fish for striped bass, invited my father,
brother in-laws, and my nephews. The boat was scheduled to fish Race Point.

The night prior to our departure...I received the call. Bad news...the wind
had kicked up a bit and fishing race point was not an option. Change of
plans and we were gonna fish the lower cape instead. I was a bit
bummed...there is some magic in those waters and it was a bit of a
downer to be redirected. The wind howled the whole night and I thought
for sure the trip would be scratched in the morning.

We arrived at the new launch to find favorable conditions. The captain
shared some positive words about the previous day.

we motored out though the bay....carving through the chop.

On the first drift we were two fish short of limits. My brother-in-law drew first blood.

My first drop, I landed this guy....everyone was hooked up...it was wide open.

Second drift sealed the deal...12 fish in the locker...
30 minutes from the dock to limits!
we continued to fish until our arms hurt.

The fish were in about 50 feet of water and the current was moving along
at a pretty steady clip. The lighter irons were tricky to get to the
bottom....even casting up current, but the heavier butterfly jigs were deadly.
Not a drop was made on a butterfly that didn't immediately get picked up.

the outing was pretty sweet to say the least. We were fishing the bottom with butterfly
jigs and deadly dicks. As a bonus the charter was outfitted with the new
Van Staal VM150s...pair up with some Ugly Stik tiger lite rods. Drags were super smooth
and the combos seem to work nicely for the task....very forgiving.

We were done early...the wind and chop picked up so we headed in. All
the fish were roughly cookie cutter duplicates and the fishing was so good
the party started getting bored and started thinking about lunch.

It was awesome. I just can't get enough of these striped bass. The cape
always continues to amaze me. It seems like every time I charter
out...we always seem to find a nice pool to fish in.

Hi Puppet! Thanks for posting this here. I saw it on a couple other sites, too. I always enjoy your photo journals.

He is out of truro...but will launch where the fish are.

It was crazy. I don't have a lot of experience with charters or fishing
from boats. I have been on about a half dozen. This was by far the most
productive. Normally there is some amount of motoring around. In this
situation...we motored out about a 1/4 mile and booooom!

The boat and equipment was top notch. It was my first outing with this
charter. I would hire them again for sure. The captain seems like a pretty
good guy. The fishing was so easy its really hard to get a good handle on
the full spectrum of the captain's skill. That being said, if you ask and look
around he is highly recommended.

Poor for me, but I've been so busy with work, family stuff, and running 6 websites that I've gotten a bit out of sync with what's happening. 1 or 2 nights a week is about all I've been able to get out lately.

Lettin all the fish swim by.

I hear ya. I'm in year 5 of a similar project house. Got skunked in Rhodie Friday night, then spent the weekend painting walls and building bookshelves. One chip at a time brother

You didn't miss out by not fishing the Race, Great Photo Journal as always. The waters off of Cape Cod can be magic regardless of where you are. Glad you had a good time.
