JAN. 22: One-day boating safety course, offered by Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 16-01, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Point Pleasant Coast Guard Station Sail Loft. Fee: $55. For more information or to register call Dave Clark at (732) 295-2126.

JAN. 28-30: The 14th Fly Fishing Show, Garden State Exhibit Center, 50 Atrium Dr., Somerset. Merchandise, displays, demonstrations and seminars for all levels, and an aisle devoted exclusively to fly tying. Limited-size classes, on casting, fly-tying and other topics, available, advance registration required. Admission: Adults, $14, $24 for two-day pass, $32 for three-day pass. FEB. 26: Becoming an Outdoors-Woman Fly-Tying Workshop at Pequest Trout Hatchery, Oxford, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This workshop will consist of a morning seminar introducing the equipment and materials used in fly tying, types of flies and tying techniques, and an afternoon of tying flies with the help of volunteer instructors. This workshop is designed for beginners. All materialswill be provided and you may keep the flies that you tie. The cost for the day is $40, which includes lunch and morning refreshments. The deadline to register is Feb. 4.
