when making my own striper leaders i've been using a swivel with a fishfinder. for the leader itself ive been using about an arms length of line, then attaching the hook and the other end obviously to the other side of the swivel... my line is 20# test but my question is should I use the same exact line to make the leader or use say a 50# test. does it matter?
Shock it matters depending on the bottom structure and again in situations where the line is liable to get chaffed.
I generally use a 40 pound test leader wheel for my leaders.
This usually provides the abrasion resistence necessary to get a big fish to the shore.
It will be fine.
Some of those pre packaged snelled hooks use 60.
A leader wheel of sufix is ~ $8.00
Flouro is > 6 times that for the same amt of yardage. 110
I put the fish finder or egg sinker on the main line not on the leader.
