Restocking the waters: Bass going to Illinois lake
About 20,000 hybrid striped bass fingerlings are on their way to grow up in Clinton Lake near Clinton, Ill. The fish were among 385,000 bass and walleye hatched this year at the fish hatchery that started in a former cooling canal at Exelon Nuclear Quad-Cities Generating Station near Cordova, Ill., as part of an aquaculture research project with Southern Illinois University.
Since the project began in 1984, more than 6 million fish have been restocked in the Mississippi River and lakes and a new hatchery has been built.
