Striped bass disease lecture Gloucester Point , VA

Striped bass disease lecture
Thursday January 27, 2005
7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Location:
Virginia Institute of Marine Science - Gloucester Point Campus
Gloucester Point , VA

Details: The Virginia Institute of Marine Science invites the public to a lecture, A New Disease In Striped Bass: Should Anglers Beware? at 7 p.m. Jan. 27 at its Gloucester Point Campus. The presentation, which is part of the VIMS After Hours Lecture Series, will focus on research showing that three of every four striped bass examined are infected with mycobacteria. Generally associated with aquaculture, the bacterial outbreak is notable because it?s occurring in a natural population, can produce ugly skin lesions, involves new mycobacterial species and has unknown consequences for striped bass stocks. Dr. Howard Kator will discuss what is known about the disease and possible consequences for both fish and people.
