Not threadjacking at all - I also very much agree it's a good thing to let people know where you are. It's not like you ever expect that the dangerous situation is going to happen the day you head out.
I've gone out early evening or at night a few times and I know it makes my wife nervous - giving her the where/when/arrival eta is helpful. Since I'm on shore, I'll shoot a text once in awhile to ping her that I didn't get into a fillet knifefight on the beach or anything. That's one suggestion that works well for me.
