Nice post Rich. As valuable as structure and anomalies are I never discounted the value of simply prospecting. Back in the day when we would access the beach by boat. we would go "squidding". Simply walking the beach casting a block tin or Hopkins,when they first came out. Just cast far enough to clear the break, looking for those fish hanging in the surf line. when herring were around we would use a large metal lip swimmer. Caught my largest surf caught bass on a nondescript stretch. of beach on an 8 inch gibbs swimmer in a 3 ft break right in the surf line.
