Hi Dan - I have been refurbishing a 2nd home near Bond's Dock, so I have thrown a few casts there. However, the tide has been dead low during my free time, lately. I understand that the boat ramp, up river, on the other side of the Devon Bridge is a good spot. The power plant discharges hot water that drives the stripers crazy, so I hear.

My question is, am I wasting time fishing with lures? Everyone seems to bottom-fish. Vted

Dan: I grew up in Stratford and fished it as a teenager 30 years ago. I used to ride my bike from Cooks Pond (up north) to Bonds dock and other places at daybreak. Got stopped by a cop one morning, thought I was running away or something. He called my Dad at 5 a.m. and asked where his son was. He replied groggily "I think he went fishing down to Bonds dock...." !!

Never caught much but the water is sooo much cleaner now.

Another spot at low tide is the mouth of the river off short beach, there is a sandbar next to the channel. As the tide comes up, you will get stuck and have to swim...

Living in Vermont, and will be fishing the Merrimack River and Plum Island...
