Arrow Potomac Rock fish moving up the river.

The fish have started to make the spring spawning move up the Potomac and are being caught in 6-10 feet of water on 3/4 oz chrome-blue back
Rat-L-Traps. Size ranging from 6-40 lbs. 36 fish today before lunch.

Mike_express,
Do you want to reveil WHERE you were catching them this past weekend?
It's a big river and with a kayak I got to get close on the put-in.

Trolling Saturday between the 301 bridge and Coles Point. S winds at 5, waves 1 foot or less. Water is 59/60 degrees. Big rocks are in the Occoquan now. Keepers only below 301 bridge till May 16th. After that, anywhere below the Wilson Bridge.

I've seen them right at the boat docks the last couple of times I was there. I haven't thrown anything at them yet 'cause I've always been on a mission when I'm there getting the boat ready for today. Success!! 36" and 42" in the boat today down at Piney Point. Chartreuse chutes for both.

Are they holding at the mouth of the rivers? I'm in Richmond and would try the James downtown if there is a chance they're there.

I'd love to go try the James tomorrow, but I got nailed with a beast of a cold. Go figure. I guess better now than a week or two from now. Good luck! I haven't been to Fletcher's in over 20 years.

Hey Guys, been reading your posts for several weeks, I am a Striper addict myself, have been fishing chhainbridge for about 10 years now, never caught a Striper there, but have caught plenty on hand tied flies, fishing around Mount Vernon. Went out yesterday all day, all that was there were Gizzard Shad, no herring. I dont understand how everyone taloks about using 1-3 ounces weights as the river is so violent and flooded, no matter what the weight i use, it takes about 30 seconds for my cast to end, i cast complete up river 180 degrees et it sink and watch my rig fly by at super speed (no fish would ever be that quick to chase my rig) What am I doing wrong? I fish from the shore, use A St Croix Surf rod with Baitrunner, I get plenty of super long cats but it makes no difference, I cant get my rig to stay at the bottom what so ever, the current is just so powerful. Im fishing from the VA side, is that my first istake? I realized yesterday that the DC side (fletchers) is all sunny and the Virginia side is all shade, because of all the trees hangin over the river, do you think my chances are better if I fish from the DC side? But what about the current? Its still so powerful, am I fishiong to close to Chainbridge? Should I walk further away from the bridge and closer to Fletchers? Im losing it, as im sick of throwing away hundreds of dollars ever spring at Chainbridge. Help a Striper brother out, Will update you all on my luck this Sunday.
keep he Stripers alive, catch and release
Joe
