Default 2017 HERRING TRACKING REPORTs

We can use this thread to track Herring movements up the river.

Let us know when you start seeing them ... General location or county is fine, no need to give up your specific honey holes.

Thank you!

Herring are up in Haverstraw Bay now but hopefully this cold snap slowed them down.

With all this cold and soon (hope-Hope) to be melting White sxxt, they'll be down the river for a while. Another storm on the way for the weekend but supposed to be more to the south of 84.

We may see somewhat of a normal season, if there is such a thing when it comes to fishing.

Could we please keep this thread to actual Herring Tracking Reports and make separate threads for commentaries ????

It makes it easier that way so when there is a new post it's actually regarding where the herring are.

lets try to keep this page just for reports.... Bassinbrian is grumpy about now, he's not Striper fishing this year. Ahhh never mind he's probably sleeping in the chase lounge pool side, down in Florida.

From River Basin Sports

THEY’RE ON THE WAY, THE HERRING THAT IS

Even though the Catskill Creek is still running muddy at the present time the conditions further downriver are not quite as bad. We’ve had our first believable herring reports come in from the Rondout Creek at Kingston as well as further upriver in the Esopus at Saugerties. This often is the point at which the upriver migration pauses until the water conditions further north become a little friendlier.

The pause can be just a couple of days but some years we’ve seen almost a couple of weeks before they once more head north. And, if the herring are here… you can be sure that the stripers are not far behind.

I'm about a mile north of the Kingston rhinecliff bridge. Been out since 11am and haven't had a single herring hit a sabiki or following a stoolie yet.
